If you’re lucky enough to find yourself in Crested Butte, you may feel the impulse to break out some tunes from The Sound Of Music. Nobody would blame you - it really won’t be your fault. The mountains near Crested Butte, Colorado - just inspire you to do so. These incredible mountains feel truly alive with the sound of music and it’s tempting to join them in their chorus.
The town of Crested Butte is located in the East River Valley which was once used as a summer residence by Ute Native Americans. It sits at an elevation of 8885 feet or 2700 meters above sea level, and is nestled in some of the most breathtaking scenery. Crested Butte, a former coal mining hub, is now the wildflower capital of Colorado, says the Colorado state legislature.
July is the season for the dances of wildflowers in this beautiful area, and we will be gifted with paintbrush, fleabane, fireweed, lupine, larkspur, cinquefoil, chickweed, sneezeweed, shooting star, sunflower, aster, coneflower, monkey flower, gaillardia, harebell, and of course, the most honored flower in this area , the Rocky Mountain Columbine. Under the blues of a Colorado sky and in pastoral, mountain meadows - often surrounded by or weaving around groves of majestic aspens, you will discover plenty of photographic opportunities for everything from macro to wide-angle photography.
Days will be divided between early morning and late afternoon shoots with classroom discussions during the day. Topics will include everything from the craft of photography, to digital discussions, to the creative process. There will be assignments and reviews of daily work.
Lodging is in an alpine lodge at the base of the mountains with a short distance to the great cuisine and resources of Crested Butte.
This workshop will be geared for intermediate and advanced photographers.
